SunClean Self- Cleaning Glass by PPG.
CHARACTERISTICS:
SunClean Self-Cleaning Glass has three distinct characteristics: Durable, Photocatalytic and Hydrophilic.
DURABLE — The glass has a durable, long-lasting coating that has been fused into the glass at high temperatures during the glass manufacturing process.
PHOTOCATALYTIC PROPERTIES — The coating exhibits photocatalytic properties, i.e., it will slowly decompose organic material.
HYDROPHILIC PROPERTIES — The coating also exhibits hydrophilic properties, i. e., it will cause water to sheet over the coated surface and dry with minimal spotting and streaking.
In short, the light from the sun energizes the SunClean self-cleaning glass to help slowly breakdown and loosen dirt and other organic material. Then when it rains, or is rinsed with distilled water, the sheeting action helps more effectively rinse away loosened dirt and allows the window to dry quickly with minimal spotting or streaking.
WHAT TO EXPECT
It looks different — From the outside, SunClean self-cleaning glass has a slightly brighter appearance than other glass.
Inside, it is virtually indistinguishable from other windows.
It doesn‘t function immediately — SunClean self-cleaning glass needs a few days of exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays to be energized and to reach its full potential. UV light is abundant even on cloudy days or in shaded areas, so this process works non-stop throughout the day.
Works like a self-cleaning oven — Like a self-cleaning oven, windows with SunClean self-cleaning glass may need your help to look their best. The best and easiest method is to simply fill a spray bottle or garden sprayer with distilled water and spray the window. Once the window is thoroughly and completely wet, you’re done. The sheeting characteristics of the SunClean self-cleaning glass will evenly disperse the water, flushing away loosened dirt and debris.
“Picture framing” — When your windows are wet, you may notice beads of water at the edges of the glass. This is called “picture framing” and is a normal interaction between SunClean and the window materials and is only noticeable when the window is wet.
AVAILABILITY & PRICING
SunClean self-cleaning glass is only available in conjunction with LowE. It is only available with the following glass packages: ClimaTech, ClimaTech Plus, ClimaTech TG2. It is not available with ClimaTech 2.
As far as SunCleans’ availability in the specific window product lines, it is available on all replacement windows.
